Leipzig Festival of Lights 2026 programme
Leipzig Festival of Lights – The Path of Light
Friday, 9 October 2026, 7–11 pm
The 2026 Festival of Lights follows a path of light through Leipzig city centre. Between St Nicholas Church and St Matthew’s Churchyard, light installations, performances and images from 1989 connect history with the present. International artists, local project partners and Leipzig school pupils will jointly create a European perspective. The candle podium in the shape of an 89 at St Thomas Church/corner of Klostergasse offers a quiet moment of remembrance as well as an opportunity for exchange. This creates a shared space for remembrance and reflection.
The Path of Light can be explored in either direction; there is no set order. You may choose your own starting point. Orange streetlights will help guide the way on the evening of the Festival of Lights.
The “Explore Leipzig – City Tours” app offers a Festival of Lights tour featuring all projects – also available as an audio version (Download iOS | Download Android).
