Programme Leipzig Festival of Lights 2021
Three locations, three perspectives
In 2021, the Leipzig Festival of Lights presented itself with a new, decentralised concept. The most important change: instead of being held exclusively on Augustusplatz as before, the Festival of Lights took place in 2021 at several locations within the inner city ring, where light installations could be experienced from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.. It was also new that there was no stage programme. Visitors could therefore use the entire evening to visit all installations and the candles' podium '89 in any order. The candles' podium '89, traditionally illuminated by visitors, was located on the St Nicolas Church Yard. There, at 7 p.m., short greetings with musical accompaniment were given. As in the previous year, the people of Leipzig were once again able to symbolically take on candle sponsorships.
