The traditional candle display in the shape of an 89 will once again be a central part of the Leipzig Festival of Lights on 9 October 2026. This year, the candle 89 will be located at Thomaskirchhof / corner of Klostergasse. Throughout the evening, visitors can place tealights there, joining together in a quiet gesture of remembrance of the Peaceful Revolution. The candles are available free of charge or in return for a voluntary donation at all candle and information stands in the city centre. This year, the proceeds from candle donations will benefit Haus Steinstraße e. V.
