Katja Heitmann collects and preserves “human movement”. More than 2,500 people have already donated their personal movements. In PERPETUUM, visitors to the Leipzig Festival of Lights will now encounter “movement donors” who took part in a workshop in Leipzig. They will be displayed on a monumental scale on the 9ᵗʰ of October. Visitors to the Leipzig Festival of Lights will stand opposite them and hear the stories behind the movements. In a sea of light, their own movements will also become visible. 

The project workshop brought together people from many different areas of urban society. The participants reflected Leipzig’s diversity: employees from companies such as DHL worked with the same dedication as pupils from Leipzig schools and course participants from VILLA.

Katja Heitmann works at the intersection of choreography and installation. She explores what moves people and creates pared-back, precise visual spaces. As a ‘choreographic sculptor’, she investigates movement as a material and focuses her works on clear concepts. Her projects are often created in dialogue with urban communities.
