Projection mapping and choral music

For the Burgplatz location (New Town Hall/Stadthaus), Philipp Geist developed the project WIR – Leipzig 2023. Participation and the involvement of people were an important part of this, with visitors becoming part of the installation. Photos of Leipzig residents were projected onto the façade. The concept also included a musical component: the Leipzig Chamber Choir was part of WIR – Leipzig 2023. Under the direction of Andreas Reuter, the singers performed on the passage between the New Town Hall and the Stadthaus, the so-called Beamtenlaufbahn, in the midst of the projection. The musician Lukas Taido developed a composition for this. In the collaboration between Philipp Geist and Lukas Taido, music and image were closely interwoven. The music generated and controlled the image compositions, while the music in turn responded to the images – a mutual, inspiring interplay of image and sound. The images were layered many times as digital collages, coloured, with tiny details extracted and recombined. The integration of the choir and the photographs (some of which were created during an activity at the 2023 city festival) created a site-specific connection with Leipzig. In this way, WIR – Leipzig 2023 sought to reveal the city’s genius loci. The result was an artistic, abstracted and painterly image composition, accompanied by music. The project presented the WIR – the “we”, the sense of community, togetherness and also the diversity of the city.
