Candle Sponsors 2025

Leipzig Festival of Lights

The traditional candles' podium '89 in the shape of an 89 will once again be an integral part of the Leipzig Festival of Lights on the 9ᵗʰ of October 2025. This year, the candles' podium '89 will be located in Schillerpark. There, visitors can place tealights throughout the evening and thus create a quiet collective gesture of remembrance for the Peaceful Revolution. The candles are available free of charge or for a voluntary donation at all candle and information stands in the city centre. This year, the proceeds from the candle donations will benefit the sociocultural centre “Die VILLA”, which has been committed to education, culture and social participation in Leipzig since 1990.

Die VILLA is more than just a building: it is a place of education, culture and social participation in Leipzig, supported by the non-profit VILLA e. V. With more than 100 weekly activities, it offers space for creativity, exchange and personal development for children, young people, adults and seniors.

Die VILLA Leipzig

Place for education, culture and encounters

Whether music lessons, political education, media education projects, open workshops or civic engagement: the VILLA promotes democratic values, strengthens personal initiative and brings together people from different backgrounds and generations.

The VILLA’s diverse educational and cultural programmes

With its extensive programme, the VILLA addresses all age groups and supports individual development as well as social interaction.

  • For children and young people, there are, for example, music, theatre and dance workshops, media literacy and empowerment courses, as well as leisure activities that enable social and cultural participation.
  • Adults benefit from German courses and political and cultural education opportunities.
  • For older people, the VILLA offers specially designed groups and activities, including exercise and dance activities, as well as regular meetings that foster social connections and exchange.
  • Particularly valuable are the welcoming offers aimed at combating loneliness and exclusion, such as the Tanzlabor Leipzig or KulturLeben Leipzig, which create opportunities for encounters and therefore strengthen social cohesion.

In addition to its educational programmes, the VILLA is also an important place for voluntary work and civic initiatives that enrich the city’s dialogue through a wide range of events. The VILLA organisation also includes the socio-cultural centre KOMM-Haus in Leipzig-Grünau and Saxony’s largest community workshop, Makerspace Leipzig in Gohlis.
