Film review of the Leipzig Festival of Lights 2023
On the 9ᵗʰ of October 2023, the City of Leipzig celebrated the Leipzig Festival of Lights in memory of the Peaceful Revolution in autumn 1989. The film looks back at the three light projects “Trabi” (Augustusplatz, by Signal Creative, Czech Republic), “WIR – Leipzig 2023” (Burgplatz, by Philipp Geist and Lukas Taido, Germany) and “Beacon of Hope” (Richard-Wagner-Platz, by Craig Morrison, Scotland/UK). Alongside moving impressions of the three art installations, the film shows excerpts from interviews with the artists, with contemporary witnesses and with visitors to the Leipzig Festival of Lights, as well as from the welcoming addresses by the Minister-President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, the Lord Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, and the Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, Carsten Schneider, at St Nicolas Church Yard.
