The Peaceful Revolution was carried by many courageous people. With their joint non-violent commitment, they were able to overcome the dictatorship. Julian Hölscher’s project focuses on this mass of people and their messages. The video projection on the façade of the Galeria building shows animated letters forming a constantly changing pattern. Each letter represents a person. Within the background noise of the sheer mass of characters, messages and keywords emerge that are closely linked to the events of 1989. The project reveals how change becomes possible through the power of community.

Artist Julian Hölscher portrayed
Julian Hölscher, based in Bremen, has been active nationally and internationally since 2012. Together with sound designer Thomas Werner, he explores the boundaries between virtual and material realities by merging light, sound and form. Their artistic focus lies on video productions, immersive site-specific installations and augmented architecture. For their innovative projects, they have been honoured with eight nationwide awards. Their aim is to convey complex stories of time, space, object, sound and image both visually and narratively.
