Overcoming Borders
Traditionally, the Leipzig Festival of Lights invites visitors to Augustusplatz on the 9ᵗʰ of October. Under the headline "Overcoming Borders", the art and civic project in 2012 explored, both in content and artistic expression, the events in Hungary in 1956 as well as in 1989 and their impact on Germany and Europe. The occasion for this thematic focus was the 20ᵗʰ anniversary of the signing of the German-Hungarian Friendship Treaty.
