A large flag waves above the heads of visitors on the Leipzig Festival of Lights evening. What makes it special: a video is projected onto the flowing fabric, creating space for the stories of women, both historical and contemporary. The light, billowing fabrics disarm the martial and open up space for what is feminine, free and emancipatory. We hear texts by Christa Wolf, Stefanie-Lahya Aukongo, Angelika Nguyen and Gabriele Stötzer. The texts were found through research and in collaboration with local partners of Frauenkultur e. V. Leipzig and the Christa Wolf Society.
Acting: Anna McCarthy, Manuela Ritz, Sandra Juds, Sound: Anna McCarthy
Expert advice: Dr Karin Aleksander, board member of the Christa Wolf Society.
The text by Angelika Nguyen comes from the commentary of her 1991 documentary film “Bruderland ist abgebrannt”.
The fabric was designed and sewn by Nani Weixler.
