Large-scale portraits of people who helped shape the events of autumn 1989 appear on the glass façade of Zeitgeschichtliches Forum. The faces are projected from inside onto selected window surfaces, standing out brightly against the façade.
Powerful beams of light extend from the building into the public space. They appear as bright, spatially visible paths of light, connecting the portraits in the windows with the square in front of the building. Depending on the viewing position, the beams of light seem to extend the images into the urban space.
The installation brings together historical photographs, the architecture of the site and the audience present. The people portrayed represent the many citizens who took part in the peaceful demonstrations and the Peaceful Revolution. Light becomes a symbol of remembrance, courage, hope and a shared commitment to democratic values.
An audio or sound design is planned for the installation. The audio content that will be played is currently still being planned. Further information will follow.
