Large-scale portraits of people who helped shape the events of autumn 1989 appear on the glass façade of the Forum of Contemporary History. The faces are projected from inside onto selected window surfaces, standing out brightly against the façade.
Powerful beams of light extend from the building into the public space. They appear as bright, spatially visible pathways of light, connecting the portraits in the windows with the square in front of the building. Depending on the viewing position, the beams of light seem to extend the images into the urban space.
The installation brings together historical photographs, the architecture of the site and the audience present. The people portrayed represent the many citizens who took part in the peaceful demonstrations and the Peaceful Revolution. Light becomes a symbol of remembrance, courage, hope and the shared commitment to democratic values.
The sound design does not use spoken texts or voices. A fast, melodic, electronic-sounding soundtrack can be heard, synchronised with the images and movements of the projection. The artificial, machine-like sound creates an atmospheric accompaniment and reinforces the dynamic nature of the visual changes.
