We, We, We and We
Based on the slogan “Wir sind das Volk” (“We are the people”) and its reinterpretations and appropriations up to the present day, the works created under the motto We, We, We and We examined the “we” as a political act and assertion. Under the direction of Sven Bergelt, students of the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig developed artistic video works and performative installations. These engaged critically with the memory of the sense of togetherness of 1989, the question of the visibility of marginalised “we” groups, and the struggle of various groups for power and control. The students’ works formed a parcours of video screens and installations that offered Leipzig Festival of Lights visitors access to different forms of “we”.
