On 9ᵗʰ of October 1989, more than 70,000 people demonstrated in Leipzig, calling for freedom and democracy. It was a powerful crowd – yet behind it stood 70,000 individuals. Where did the hero come from? focused on the individual who overcame their fears at the time in order to change the world. At the same time, EunJin Park showed how seemingly small contributions by individuals could bring about great change. The heroes who brought about the Peaceful Revolution – where did they come from? At St Nicolas Church Yard, they were made visible by projectors: the light projections showed people in everyday situations, entering the church, and taking part in demonstrations. They represented the demonstrators of the time, who overcame their fears and moved towards freedom.
