The short film shows strong impressions of the Leipzig Festival of Lights 2014. On 9 October 2014, the citizens of Leipzig commemorated the Peaceful Revolution at the original settings of the autumn of '89. Numerous statesmen from around the world took part in the anniversary celebrations and the Leipzig Festival of Lights. For one night, the entire inner ring road was closed to traffic so that 200,000 people could follow the historic demonstration path. 25 works of art by international artists were presented along the 3.6 kilometres of the route. © Leipzig Fernsehen

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution about 200,000 Leipzig citizens, guests and top-ranking political representatives from all over the world gathered on Augustusplatz square and the city ring road in the evening of 9th October. During the Leipzig Festival of Lights they attended the welcome addresses starting at 7 p. m., delivered by the Lord Mayor of Leipzig Burkhard Jung, Saxon Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich as well as, among others, by Federal President Joachim Gauck, the state presidents of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary – Bronislaw Komorowski, Milos Zeman, Andrej Kiska, János Áder. After the official opening, art projects were started at more than 20 stations along the 3.6 kilometres long city ring road.
Artists' remarks
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution, during the Leipzig Festival of Lights 2014, the area where visitors can move around between art projects will for the first time involve the entire ring road. Along the historical route of the demonstrators light, sound and video projections, dance, performance and music will establish and challenge relations between 1989 and 2014. On a route of 3.6 kilometres, the interaction will become visible and tangible at more than 20 stations, and visitors can become participants.
