How to get to the Leipzig Festival of Lights 2024

The best way to get to the Leipzig Festival of Lights is by public transport, by bike or on foot. On the afternoon and evening of October 9, 2024, the event will cause extensive closures and restrictions for private transport as well as detour for public transport. These are planned as follows

Closure of the inner city ring road for private and public transport

Between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. the following day, the entire inner city ring road will be closed to private traffic. The inner city ring road will remain closed to public transport from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. the following day.

City center entrance/exit

The traffic closures will be in place from 4 pm. This means restricted access to the inner city ring road. Exiting the city center is possible at three temporary crossings (Ü1 Am Hallischen Tor, Ü2 Thomaskirchhof, Ü3 Universitätsstraße) until 7 pm. Between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., the entire city center area will be completely closed to private and public transport, and no entry/exit will be possible. From 1 a.m. (10.10.) it will again be possible to exit the city center at the above-mentioned crossings (Ü1, Ü2, Ü3)

The inner city ring road will be open to private traffic from around 4 am.

All parking garages in the city center are subject to the above-mentioned restrictions on entry and exit.

Information for travelers with the S-Bahn

On October 9, construction work will take place in the City Tunnel from around 9 pm, which will lead to restrictions in S-Bahn traffic. Information and timetables can be found at bahn.de and here.
