Transforming remembrance

Ewa Meister, Johanna Ralser, Judith Selenko

Projection
----------

at the Europahaus, Augustusplatz 7

With *Transforming Memory*, the artists and cultural practitioners Ewa Meister, Johanna Ralser and Judith Selenko explored the question of how a “society of the many” remembers. The project sought to broaden perspectives on often one-sided narratives of history and to expand them through intersectional, (queer-)feminist voices. The main focus was on the civic engagement of emancipatory movements before and after 1989 and reflected their indispensable role in democratisation processes in a global context.

The projection on the Europahaus was realised in close cooperation with Space Transformers e. V. and with the support of the publishing house Yilmaz-Günay, the Luise Otto Peters Society e. V. and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation with the publication “”.

The artists in portrait
-----------------------

- Johanna Ralser**Johanna Ralser** works transdisciplinarily in the fields of the performing arts and artistic-curatorial practice. Ralser is employed as a research associate in the Department of Cultures of the Curatorial at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and is a founding member of SPACE TRANSFORMER e. V. In addition, Ralser designs stage and costume sets for various theatre and opera productions. Guided by a queer-feminist and anti-discriminatory perspective, Ralser’s interest lies in experimental cultural formats that explore forms of solidarity-based agency.
- Judith Selenko**Judith Selenko** works as a video and projection artist for numerous opera and music theatre productions, festivals, concerts and installations. New media and digital scenography, as well as the connection between art and technology, always play an important role in her work.
Her engagements have taken her to the Staatsoper Berlin, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Bregenz Festival and the Easter Festival Baden-Baden, among others. In the field of contemporary music, her works have been presented at steirischer herbst and the Ö1 musikprotokoll. In addition, Judith Selenko has repeatedly collaborated as a video artist with the Experimentalstudio Freiburg, with which she created the production “ODE” for the Schlosslichtspiele Karlsruhe and the ZKM.
- Ewa Meister**Ewa Meister** works in the curatorial field, with a focus on transcultural and transdisciplinary projects. After deepening her theoretical knowledge in Art History and Curatorial Studies in Venice, Leuven and Leipzig, her path led her to a practical exploration of the potential of encounters with art and culture. After holding the curatorial lead of the producing gallery intershop, her journey took her to Chemnitz, where she coordinated projects for the association Klub Solitaer e.V. Alongside this, she works freelance and on a project basis, mainly in the context of her co-founded association SPACE TRANSFORMER e. V.
